Two of my favorites. Gary Paulson also wrote an interesting fictional piece called "Dogsong", I believe, and Joe Runyan's "Winning Strategies for Distance Mushers" is a good technical manual for the nitty gritty realities of starting a kennel and training a team to race. Both had laugh out loud moments, and a beautiful understanding of dogs. Paulsen is a great writer. Bowers wasn't too bad either, and his story was particularly compelling. Somehow, I really related to her, and loved hearing what Jeff King was like from her point of view (she handled and ran out of his kennel).
